Recently while trying to install Windows Xp professional on an old computer, i got into this strange problem, where nothing happened after i tried booting from the CD. I mean, the computer would be ON, but it would not run the normal blue screen where it inspects the hardware before installation starts.
So, after going through a few forums, i got to know that if the Hard disk had previously installed Linux on it, this could happen.
The solution to this is to Wipe clean the hard Disk. There is a utility “Darik’s Boot and Nuke” which does the job perfectly. The link is http://www.dban.org/
Download the iso image, burn it on a CD, boot from the CD and clean the Hard Disk.
Definitely solved the problem for me.
